Why I have a website but no social media
big tech
Big Tech has constructed a mass-surveillance apparatus, and history proves that concentrated, unchecked power always attracts bad actors. A malicious force doesn't need to break into your house when they can simply query a central database to map every vulnerability, secret, and routine you have. On an individual level, a corrupt official or bad actor can turn this data into a weapon for targeted harassment, political blackmail, or selective prosecution of political rivals. On a societal scale, a rogue regime can use these behavioral archives to instantly identify dissidents, predict organizing efforts, and preemptively crush political opposition before it takes root. They can feed your micro-data into algorithmic feedback loops to engineer mass hysteria, turn communities against each other, or manipulate elections with surgical precision.Even having nothing to hide, you still decide whether to participate in a huge manipulation experiment of which the results will only ever be shared with who controls the symste. Building my own website is a line in the sand—a refusal to participate in an ecosystem that hands bad actors a complete map of human behavior. This space exists without hidden trackers or backdoors silently profiling your presence while you read. I refuse to help build the cage, and I won't force you to enter it just to read my work.
